ALUFOS Project : a new step towards securing our supplies

On Monday, June 22, Alteo and HES International B.V. officially inaugurated the new logistics infrastructure of the ALUFOS project at the Multi-Bulk Terminal in Fos-sur-Mer, on the occasion of the arrival and unloading of the first ship.

We were pleased to welcome many institutional representatives and local stakeholders, including Paul van Gelder, CEO of HES International, Alain Moscatello, President of Alteo, Christophe BORGUS, sub-prefect of Istres, Mathieu Gatineau, sub-prefect of Aix-en-Provence, Hervé Martel, CEO of the Grand Port Maritime de Marseille, Hervé Granier, Mayor of Gardanne, @Philippe Maurizot, Mayor of Fos-sur-Mer, as well as Philippe Z., Vice-President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Their presence highlights the importance of this project for the industrial, economic, and logistical development of our region.

The guests then attended a demonstration of the unloading and storage operations, giving them a hands-on look at the terminal’s capabilities and the opportunities this project opens up. This strategic partnership marks an important step in securing the supply of alumina hydrate for our Gardanne plant. In a context where supply chain resilience has become a major issue for European industry, ALUFOS provides a concrete solution by strengthening the competitiveness, flexibility, and sustainability of our activities.

Beyond securing supplies, ALUFOS helps strengthen the competitiveness of the Gardanne site and its 330 employees. It is also part of a decarbonization effort, with a gradual shift of traffic to rail planned from 2027.

We thank all the teams, institutional partners, and local players who contributed to the success of this ambitious project, focused on the future of industry and sustainable logistics.
